Five dice, three rulesets, one goal: fill every box with the highest score you can.

The basics
Every turn you roll five dice up to three times, holding back whichever dice you want to keep between rolls. Then you record the roll in one open box on your scorecard — pick a box your dice don't satisfy and it scores zero. Once every box is full, the game ends: the higher total wins, and a tie is a draw.
Yacht vs Yahtzee vs Yatzy
Yacht, Yahtzee and Yatzy are close relatives: five dice, up to three rolls per turn, one box filled per turn. Turnpan offers three rulesets, and the Classic 13 ruleset is the one that plays like Yahtzee. They differ in which boxes exist and how each one scores.
- Yacht has 12 boxes. Choice, 4 of a Kind and Full House score the sum of all five dice, and a Full House accepts five of a kind. A small straight (four in a row) scores 15, a large straight (five in a row) scores 30, and Yacht scores 50. The upper bonus is 35.
- Yatzy has 15 boxes. It adds One Pair, Two Pairs and Three of a Kind, and the pair and kind boxes score only the matching dice. Straights must be exactly 1-2-3-4-5 (15 points) or 2-3-4-5-6 (20 points), and the upper bonus is 50.
- Classic 13 has 13 boxes and the familiar Yahtzee-style scoring: Full House 25, small straight 30, large straight 40, Yacht 50, and an upper bonus of 35. Every extra five of a kind after a scored Yacht earns +100, and a forced joker rule decides where it may be recorded.

Extra Yacht bonus
Once the Yacht box already holds 50 points, every later five-of-a-kind you record — in any box — adds a further +100.
Forced joker
Once the Yacht box is filled, rolling another five of a kind is a forced joker: it must be recorded in this order.
- If the matching upper box (e.g. Sixes for five 6s) is still open, it must be recorded there.
- Otherwise, record it in any open lower box: Full House scores 25, the straights score 30 or 40, and every other lower box scores the sum of all five dice, whatever it would normally require.
- If every lower box is full too, record a zero in any open upper box.
Five tips
- Aim for the upper bonus. Three dice of every face from Aces to Sixes add up to exactly 63, which earns the bonus. Take more than three of the high faces and you can afford fewer of the low ones.
- Keep what you have most of. After the first roll, hold the face that appears most often unless you are chasing a straight. Pairs and triples are what turn into Four of a Kind, Full House and Yacht.
- Chase a straight only with a head start. A straight needs specific faces, so go for it when you already hold three or four in a row and still have rolls left. Otherwise another box is usually a safer target.
- Sacrifice the cheapest box. When a roll fits nothing, record the zero where it costs you least, such as Aces, or Yacht late in the game, rather than in a box you can still fill well.
- Save the catch-all box for a bad turn. Choice (Chance in the other rulesets) accepts any roll, so keep it open as long as you can and use it to absorb a poor roll.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Yacht the same as Yahtzee?
- They are closely related dice games with five dice, three rolls per turn and a scorecard. Turnpan's Classic 13 ruleset uses Yahtzee-style scoring, with Full House 25, straights 30 and 40, Yacht 50 and +100 for extra Yachts. The Yacht ruleset has 12 boxes and its own scoring.
- How many rolls do I get each turn?
- Up to three. Between rolls you may hold back any dice you want to keep and re-roll the rest, then you record the result in one open box.
- How does the upper-section bonus work?
- Score 63 or more across the six upper boxes, Aces through Sixes, and you earn a bonus: 35 points in the Yacht and Classic 13 rulesets, 50 points in Yatzy. Three dice of each face add up to exactly 63.
- What happens if my roll fits no box?
- You must still record it in an open box, and that box scores zero. Choose the box you are least likely to fill well later.
- Is Yacht a game of luck or skill?
- Both. The dice decide what you roll, but choosing which dice to keep and which box to fill decides how much you get from it. Over many games the player who decides better wins more often.
